Expert Shopify SEO Agency to Grow Your Customers

Organic search drives around 30% of traffic to a well-optimised Shopify e-commerce store. It can be the highest-converting channel you own outright. Most Shopify stores never get near it, because the structure underneath was never built to scale.

We're an SEO agency experienced with Shopify. We start with the structure, then build the traffic on top of it.

Shopify seo agency

Which one is your business challenge?

Work out what you're actually buying before you brief another Shopify SEO agency. Three patterns cover most of the Shopify stores we audit, and only one is the problem people think they have.

🔍 We rank for our brand and nothing else

Your Shopify product pages exist. They just aren't the pages Google chose. The Shopify platform serves every product at both /products/item and /collections/category/products/item, and tags, filters and variants generate more. The URL you wanted ranking is splitting authority with three near-identical siblings. That's a canonical and crawl problem, and no amount of content fixes it.

📉 Our traffic flatlined as the catalogue grew

Every product you add generates more duplicate URLs and filter combinations. Past a few hundred SKUs you're spending Google's crawl budget on pages you never wanted indexed, so new products take months to get seen. Some never do. This is a site architecture problem, and it caps website traffic no matter how much content you publish. It compounds with business growth.

🏷️ We rank for products but never for categories.

Category searches are where the money is. "Merino base layers" has volume and intent; a SKU code has neither. But your collection pages ship as a bare product grid with nothing to rank, while your competitor wrote 400 words above theirs and took the position. Collection strategy is the single biggest lever in Shopify SEO, and most stores never pull it.

Recognise your store in more than one? That's common. All three share a root cause: Shopify's defaults are built to get you selling fast, not to get you found at scale. Fixing that is what proper Shopify SEO services are for.

SEO solves what Shopify lacks

Shopify handles the SEO basics out of the box. Editable meta tags, clean URL structure, automatic sitemaps, mobile-ready themes. It's just enough to feel handled while the structural problems compound underneath.

Four issues account for most of the lost organic search traffic we find. If a Shopify SEO agency can't talk about these specifically, they're selling a generic SEO campaign.

Duplicate product URLs icon

Duplicate product URLs

What happens: Shopify's default canonical covers the basic collection path. It doesn't cover tag pages, filtered collections, variant parameters or pagination. A 500-product store routinely generates several thousand crawlable URLs.

The fix: we set canonical tags properly at the Liquid template level, define indexation rules for tags and filters, and consolidate variant duplication. Search engines then rank the page you chose, with its authority intact. On most Shopify sites we inherit, this is the fastest route to better search engine rankings.

Thin collection pages icon

Thin collection pages

What happens: collections are your highest-value commercial pages, and Shopify ships them empty. A product grid gives search engines nothing to read and potential customers no reason to trust you.

The fix: we build collection-level SEO on real search intent, with targeted keywords, meta tags, genuine content around the grid, and a collection architecture that still holds at 2,000 SKUs.

Page speed icon

App and theme bloat

What happens: every app injects scripts into every page, used or not. Shopify apps accumulate faster than anyone audits them, and site speed decays slowly enough that nobody notices until Core Web Vitals fail and mobile conversions drop.

The fix: we audit every app against what it costs in load time, rebuild the image pipeline with compressed files and descriptive alt tags, and strip render-blocking code from the theme. Faster pages enhance user experience and boost conversions. The search engine rankings are the bonus.

Missing product schema

What happens: price, availability and reviews aren't machine-readable. You lose rich search engine results, and AI answer engines have nothing accurate to cite when someone asks for a recommendation in your category.

The fix: we implement schema markup across product pages and collections, so your listings earn rich results and both search engines and AI read your Shopify store correctly.

Our comprehensive Shopify SEO services

Every Shopify SEO campaign runs on the same core disciplines, weighted to what your store needs. No cookie-cutter Shopify SEO strategy. Our Shopify SEO services focus on the work that moves revenue, in the order it needs doing.

Shopify SEO audit

Month one, and revisited quarterly. A detailed audit of your Shopify website: crawl analysis, duplicate content mapping, site architecture, technical health, content relevance, user engagement metrics, app impact. You get a prioritised roadmap ranked by commercial value, not a 200-page PDF nobody reads. It's the clearest picture you'll get of what's capping your website's visibility, and it sets the SEO strategy for everything that follows.

Keyword research

Foundation of every Shopify SEO campaign. Keyword research maps targeted keywords to your collections and Shopify product pages through a five-point filter: search volume, keyword-product fit, commercial intent, competition, and long-tail opportunity. High volume with no buyer intent is just traffic. We're after online sales.

Technical SEO

Canonical control at the template level, crawl budget management, index bloat, site speed, mobile optimisation, structured data. Most SEO services skip this Shopify-specific technical optimisation. Technical SEO is unglamorous. On the Shopify platform it's also where your ceiling sits.

On-page SEO and content

On-page optimisation across collection descriptions, Shopify product pages, meta tags, headings, image optimisation with descriptive alt tags, and internal linking that guides search engines and buyers alike. We build repeatable rules rather than doing page-by-page busywork. Where a content strategy earns its place, through supporting content, buying guides or comparison pages, we'll build it. But only where content marketing genuinely serves a search someone's actually making.

Link building and off-page optimisation

The top results on Google carry roughly 3.8x more backlinks than their competitors. Our link building starts with competitor link analysis, then builds authority through digital PR, genuine partnerships and contextual placements. No link farms, and no shortcuts that cost you a penalty in eighteen months. Off-page optimisation is slow and compounding, which is exactly why it holds a competitive edge once you have it.

International SEO

Shopify Markets makes launching a second market trivial and getting it indexed correctly anything but. Duplicated storefronts across regions, missing or contradictory hreflang, and subfolder-versus-subdomain decisions made by whoever set it up on a Friday all end the same way: your international stores compete against each other for the same search results. We set the market structure, hreflang and currency signals so each region ranks in its own market instead of cannibalising the one that was already working, driving organic traffic and online visibility in each market on its own terms.

Answering your
questions about Shopify

Why does Shopify SEO matter for your online store?

Shopify SEO matters because organic search is the only major channel you own. Paid traffic stops the day the budget does. Search engine optimisation compounds. For a growing online business, that's the difference between renting your customers and keeping them. It's also where the margin is: organic search converts at roughly 3% on Shopify against a 1.4% store average, so the same traffic is worth more to your online store than almost anywhere else you can buy it.

Is Shopify bad for SEO?

No, Shopify isn't bad for SEO, but it's opinionated, and that catches people out. It's fast, secure and structurally sound out of the box. The damage comes from duplicate URL paths, thin collection pages and app-driven speed decay. All of it is fixable. Read the full breakdown in our free guide Shopify SEO Problems & How to Fix Them.

How is Shopify SEO different from traditional SEO?

Shopify SEO happens inside a fixed structure: forced URL prefixes, template-level canonical logic, a three-level menu ceiling, and Shopify apps whose behaviour you don't own. The SEO basics are the same. But the craft is making deliberate decisions within the Shopify platform's limits rather than fighting them, and it's why a generalist service provider running the same checklist across WordPress and Shopify misses the things that matter most.

How do I fix Shopify duplicate content?

Shopify's default canonical site structure handles the basic /collections/x/products/y case and nothing else. It won't help with tags, filtered collections, variant parameters or pagination. The fix combines template-level canonical control, deliberate indexation rules, and collection setup that doesn't create the duplication to begin with. It's the most common issue we find in a Shopify SEO audit.

How long until we see results?

Three to six months for meaningful movement in keyword rankings and organic traffic, compounding after that. Technical fixes move faster. Clearing crawl waste on a large catalogue sometimes shows inside weeks.

Will you need to change our collections?

We will change collections, because the site's collection structure is the biggest lever in Shopify SEO. An agency that says it won't touch your collections is telling you it isn't really doing Shopify SEO.

Do you touch our theme code?

Where needed, yes. Canonical logic, schema and speed work all live in Liquid templates. We work in a duplicated theme, test, then publish. Done properly it's invisible to customers and delivers a seamless user experience.

Can you handle thousands of products?

Yes, large catalogues are where Shopify SEO experience shows. We build repeatable rules for titles, descriptions, metadata and internal links, so the store stays optimised as products come and go.

Will this help us show up in AI search?

Shopify SEO will help your business show up in AI. Clean, structured data, consistent product information and genuine content give AI systems something accurate to reference. Thin, templated stores don't get surfaced, by search engines or AI.

Why not just use an SEO app, or AI?

Apps automate the surface: meta tags, alt text, redirects. They can't restructure collections, weigh your margins, or fix canonical logic in a Liquid template. AI will confidently generate a thousand product descriptions and hand search engines a thousand reasons to ignore you. The judgement calls need someone accountable for the outcome. That's what you're buying from a Shopify SEO company. Not software, but the SEO experts making the calls.

Find out what's capping your Shopify store's organic traffic
